Characteristics of water polo balls
Although water polo is a ball sport, the game officially belongs to swimming. To move on the field or in the pool, you swim, the central element remains the ball. The official ball for water polo must have a weight between 400 and 450 grams according to the rules of FINA and LEN. The circumference must be a minimum of 68 cm and a maximum of 71 cm, whereby the water polo balls are smaller for women and youth. The color of the ball used in the water polo must differ significantly from that of the water polo player, which is why it usually has a yellow, orange or other signal color. In contrast to the inflatable water balls for children or leisure, the water ball ball has a rubber bubble on the inside and a stable and firm plastic cover on the outside, so that no water can get inside the ball.
During the game, the ball moves across the field through passes and skilful passing, but it can also be carried out by dribbling by a player on the water surface. When throwing at the goal, players often try to throw the water ball so that it hits the water surface once on the way to the goal. Since these balls are very difficult to predict for the water polo goalkeeper, the ball must always be inflated before a game of water polo to make touch-down hits more difficult. If the ball were only slightly inflated, the touchdown would be favored and relieved.
