What are trophies used for?
Trophies have a long tradition and are particularly popular in sports. The emotional value also applies to youth teams. Receiving proof of excellence in sport is important for young athletes. Buying trophies online is therefore worthwhile for schools, for example. But sports teams also prepare for club tournaments without ordering trophies. Trophies and other honorary awards are therefore part and parcel of a club's need to honor sporting achievements.
What is certain is that trophy series are simply a part of sport if good performances are to be recognized at the awards ceremony. There are no limits. Whether football, darts, swimming, athletics or martial arts: trophies are the well-deserved reward for winning a tournament and fill young and old athletes with pride. They are often exhibited as eye-catchers.
What material are trophies made of?
The high-quality trophies for the most important competitions in the world are indeed made of expensive materials. Gold and silver are also used and, in combination with iron and tin, result in a massive trophy. For example, the cup with handle from the premier class of football is made entirely of silver and decorated with gold leaf.
Simple football cups and challenge cups as well as trophies for club and school tournaments, on the other hand, are mostly made of ABS plastic. The material is inexpensive and is considered to be robust, durable and easily mouldable. A thin coating finally gives the trophy its gold, silver or bronze colour. The marble base gives the trophy its firm footing - this is what simple and high-quality trophy series have in common.
Where do cup awards come from?
Previously, trophies were not made for award ceremonies. Instead, they were considered purely drinking vessels. The word goblet comes from the Italian term "boccale", which means cup. The first trophies were made from natural materials, and it was not until around 1500 that high-quality silver sports prizes gradually emerged.
The first goblets, which were not only used for drinking, were considered popular wedding gifts at the time. Over time, trophies received more and more decorations. The progress in blacksmithing made the trophies progressively more valuable. For this reason, its importance as an award for special achievements grew. Initially they were used to honor soldiers in particular, but today trophies and sport are inextricably linked.
What types of trophies can I buy?
Sports trophy makers like to get creative and adapt the shape of the trophy to the competition. Classic cups in the cup shop are:
- Handled trophy: can be carried particularly easily thanks to two handles and is the most common type of trophy in sports
- Figure trophy: depicts people or other figures, the best example is the Oscar
- Bowl: a flat disc, usually decorated with decorations, emblems and text of your choice
- Glass goblet: a minimalist variant of the glass goblet, often with fine decorations and engravings
- Columned Cup: Cup made up of several levels connected by narrow columns
