Landing Pits & Accessories
The heart of the long jump facility: the landing pit
The landing pit is one of the main components of a long jump facility. Every jump, whether in long jump or triple jump, ends with a landing in the sand-filled pit.
In the triple jump, in contrast to the long jump, the track may be touched twice before landing in the pit. Jumping is on a board that is 9m, 11m or 123m away from the pit, depending on your ability, the three permitted jumps must be in the order left-left-right or right-right-left. The take-off board is usually 1m - 3m away from the landing pit for long jumps.
What dimensions should a landing pit have?
A landing pit should be so wide that there is a 2.75m to 3m wide landing area for competitions and must be long enough that there is at least 10 meters for the long jump and at least 21 meters for the triple jump between the take-off board and the end of the landing pit. There are no other requirements for school sports. To guarantee a soft landing, the pit must also be deep enough for a sufficient amount of soft quartz sand to soften the landing. The fill level of the pit must be level with the take-off board.
Protect the landing pit from rain, wind and dirt
So that your landing pit is protected from all kinds of weather, a pit cover or tarpaulin is essential. Sand pit covers usually consist of a hard-wearing and weather-resistant plastic fabric that protects the sand from contamination by leaves or animal droppings, but is still permeable to water and provides adequate ventilation. The cover should protrude at least 10 cm from the edge of the pit on all sides. The cover is fastened either with ground anchors, steel cables or pipes. Kübler Sport offers you covers made of polyester fabric with 400g / sqm or made of polyethylene knitted fabric with 220g / sqm. You can also find steel wire ropes and ground anchors for attachment as well as sandbags for additional weighting. On request, you can also get covers with corner cut-outs on the side for even easier attachment with snap hooks.
Perfectly prepared with the right accessories
For optimal landing conditions and during a competition, the sand pit must have a smooth surface that is level with the take-off board. With the help of the sand smoothers, rakes and sand scoops from our range, you not only prepare your pit optimally for the jumpers, you can also smooth the pit again in no time after each attempt and prepare it for the next jumper.
Accessories for measuring width such as measuring tapes or accessories necessary for competitions such as plasticine, referee flags or distance displays can also be found in our Kübler Sport Online Shop.
